Fragrance Oil Reformulations – What’s Changing and Why

You may occasionally see a “Reformulation Notice” on some of our fragrance oils.
Here’s a simple explanation of what that means and what (if anything) you need to do.

Most important:
Any fragrance oil you have already purchased remains fully usable and sellable.
There is no recall and no requirement to withdraw, relabel, or dispose of existing stock.

Why are some fragrances being reformulated?

Across the EU and UK, chemical regulations are evolving under the Chemical Strategy for Sustainability (CSS).
Some commonly used fragrance ingredients are being reclassified under updated rules.

If an ingredient becomes restricted, suppliers must replace or remove it to keep products legally compliant.
So reformulation is about regulatory compliance — not because a product has suddenly become unsafe.

Our manufacturer has confirmed there is no safety concern at normal fragrance use levels.

Why are we doing this early?

Rather than waiting until ingredients are formally restricted, we’re updating fragrances well in advance to make things easier for our customers.

  • No sudden discontinuations
  • Time to use up existing stock naturally
  • No rushed relabelling or recipe changes
  • Updated SDS and compliance documents ready early

Think of it as future-proofing, not a forced or urgent change.

Will it smell different?

In most cases, you won’t notice a difference. Reformulations are designed to keep the same fragrance character, strength, and performance.
Very slight variation can occasionally occur, similar to normal batch-to-batch differences.

Your existing stock – common questions

Is my current oil still OK to use and sell?
Yes — completely fine and compliant.

Do I need to change my labels?
No. You can update labels naturally when you next reorder.

Is there a sell-through deadline?
No. You can simply use your current stock as normal.

How to identify the reformulated version

From 01/02/2026, some fragrances began transitioning to an updated formulation.
During this period, orders may contain either the original or reformulated version depending on stock rotation.

Reformulated batches are marked with an “r” at the end of the batch number.

Documentation

Updated Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and compliance documents are uploaded whenever a fragrance is reformulated.
If you need paperwork for a specific batch, just contact us with the fragrance name and batch number.
