The scent

Rose & Oud Fragrance Oil opens with the deep, opulent aroma of damask rose, gently spiced with clove to create warmth and immediate intrigue. As the fragrance unfolds, smoky oud wood emerges at the heart, bringing rich intensity and luxurious depth that defines this perfume-inspired blend. The base settles into smooth praline and soft amber, adding a subtle sweetness that rounds the composition with sensual elegance. Dark, refined, and unmistakably indulgent, this feminine floral-woody fragrance is especially well suited to autumn and winter collections, coming into its own during evenings and sophisticated, mood-led settings.

Recommended amounts are starting points – always test. Incense and hanging car fresheners use the candle limit (Cat 12). Linen, fabric and car air freshener sprays use the room spray limit (Cat 10B). Bath bombs, bath salts, shower gel and body scrubs use the soap limit (Cat 9). Not recommended means the IFRA limit is too low for a good scent, not that it is banned. No fragrance oil is approved for lip products.

Using this as a scent in my autumn range. Beautiful notes. The rose notes don't feel aged and the oud just finishes it quite nicely

Questions

Common questions

What does Rose & Oud fragrance oil smell like?

Floral-woody with damask rose, clove spice, smoky oud, praline sweetness, and amber warmth. Top notes: damask rose, clove. Heart: oud. Base: praline, amber. See it in our Scent Match Guide.

How much Rose & Oud fragrance oil do I need for a candle?

Use 5–10% of the candle’s total weight. For a 200g candle that’s 10–20g of Rose & Oud (about 10–19ml). There is no IFRA limit for candles. The calculator above works it out for any size.

How much Rose & Oud should I use in wax melts?

Use 5–10% – that’s 5–10g of fragrance oil for every 100g of finished melts. Check the maximum your wax can hold.

Can I use Rose & Oud in a reed diffuser?

We don’t recommend it. The IFRA maximum for reed diffusers is only 9.6%, which is too low for a good scent throw.

Can I use Rose & Oud in soap, lotion or perfume?

  • Soap: yes – 3–6% (IFRA maximum 9.6%)
  • Body lotion: yes – 0.5–1.5% (IFRA maximum 20.4%)
  • Face cream: yes – 0.1–0.5% (IFRA maximum 2.24%)
  • Perfume: yes – 5–20% (IFRA maximum 80%)
  • Lip balm: not suitable

Soap, lotion and perfume are cosmetics, so each one needs a safety assessment (CPSR) before you sell it.

Is Rose & Oud fragrance oil hazardous?

Undiluted, Rose & Oud is classified under GB CLP with the signal word Warning:

  • H315 Causes skin irritation.
  • H317 May cause an allergic skin reaction.
  • H319 Causes serious eye irritation.
  • H410 Very toxic to aquatic life with long lasting effects.

Candles, wax melts and diffusers you make with it may need their own CLP label. Full details are in the Safety Data Sheet.

Is Rose & Oud fragrance oil flammable?

No. Its flash point is >100°C, so it isn’t classified as flammable. Like any fragrance oil, keep it away from naked flames.

Will Rose & Oud discolour my wax?

It’s unlikely. Rose & Oud contains no vanillin or ethyl vanillin, the most common cause of discolouration. Always test with your own wax and dyes.

Is Rose & Oud in the Scent Match Guide?

Yes – see Rose & Oud in our Scent Match Guide, which suggests our oils for fragrances you may already enjoy.

Is there a CLP label for Rose & Oud?

Yes. Our free CLP label creator makes a ready-to-print label for candles and wax melts made with Rose & Oud. Safety Data Sheets, IFRA certificates and label files are in the documents above.

Are your fragrance oils vegan?

Yes. All are 100% vegan with no animal-derived ingredients.

Can I use Rose & Oud in an electric diffuser or oil burner?

Yes.

  • Electric water diffusers (ultrasonic or humidifier style) – fill the tank with water to the line, then add 3–5 drops per 100ml of water. Start low and add more to taste.
  • Oil burners – mix 50/50 with dipropylene glycol (DPG), or add a few drops to water in the well.

Important – look after your diffuser:

  • Fragrance oils are concentrated, and some plastics used in diffuser tanks can soften, cloud or crack if oil is left sitting in them. This depends on the plastic the diffuser is made from. It happens with any concentrated fragrance or essential oil, not just ours.
  • Empty the tank when you’ve finished. Don’t leave water and oil sitting in it between uses.
  • Rinse and wipe the tank every few uses, as fragrance oils can leave a film.
  • Check your diffuser’s instructions to make sure it is suitable for fragrance oils. If it says essential oils only, or doesn’t say, ask the maker before using it.

How do I use the 100ml bottles?

They include a blind plug to prevent leaks in transit. Either pierce the centre with a pin or biro to use it as a dropper, or remove the stopper, pour, and replace the plug.

Customer questions 1

Hello Pure Scented team, I have purchased your Velvet Rose & Oud fragrance oil, and I would like to use it to make a 250 ml sugar body scrub for personal use. Could you please confirm: 1. Is this exact fragrance oil suitable for a rinse-off sugar body scrub? 2. What is the maximum safe usage percentage for this specific product? 3. Could you please provide the relevant IFRA certificate and confirm which category applies to a body scrub? I want to make sure I use the correct amount safely. Thank you for your help.

1.Yes, Rose & Oud Fragrance Oil is suitable for a rinse-off sugar body scrub.

2.The IFRA maximum for this oil in rinse-off products is 9.6%, and we recommend 3–6% of the finished scrub’s weight.

3.A body scrub falls under IFRA Category 9 (rinse-off products). The IFRA certificate is in the Safety & compliance documents section of the product page.

In the “How much do I need?” calculator, choose Soap & body scrubs, enter your scrub’s weight, and it shows the IFRA limit and works out exactly how much fragrance oil to add.
