Dried Lavender Flowers

With its unmistakable fragrance, lavender is renowned for its use in the beauty industry, but this striking plant has many other applications – from medicinal through to distilling gin. Central to lavender’s popularity as a botanical ingredient is its abundant, floral fragrance – it’s both highly distinctive and highly prized. Both the Romans and the Greeks used the plant as a fragrance, while the Egyptians favoured its use as an embalming ingredient.

Lavender’s most traditional use has been in skincare and beauty products – the dried flowers can be used in potpourri, to make soothing sleep pillows or scented sachets for your wardrobe. It’s believed to have calming and sleep-inducing properties hence why so many sleep-focused products make good use of this flower.

It’s also a popular essential oil for relaxation and blends well with rose, ylang-ylang, jasmine, lemon, clary sage, geranium and patchouli oils. It should not be used in pregnancy.

Lavender oil is often blended into skincare ingredients as it has a soothing, calming and anti-inflammatory effect.
