Questions
What does Leather fragrance oil smell like?
Smoky, smooth, and leathery with soft suede undertones.
How much Leather fragrance oil do I need for a candle?
Use 5–10% of the candle’s total weight. For a 200g candle that’s 10–20g of Leather (about 9–18ml). There is no IFRA limit for candles. The calculator above works it out for any size.
How much Leather should I use in wax melts?
Use 5–10% – that’s 5–10g of fragrance oil for every 100g of finished melts. Check the maximum your wax can hold.
Can I use Leather in a reed diffuser?
We don’t recommend it. The IFRA maximum for reed diffusers is only 4.99%, which is too low for a good scent throw.
Can I use Leather in soap, lotion or perfume?
- Soap: yes – 3–4.99% (IFRA maximum 4.99%)
- Body lotion: yes – 0.5–1.5% (IFRA maximum 4.99%)
- Face cream: yes – 0.1–0.5% (IFRA maximum 4.99%)
- Perfume: not recommended (IFRA maximum 4.99%)
- Lip balm: not suitable
Soap, lotion and perfume are cosmetics, so each one needs a safety assessment (CPSR) before you sell it.
Is Leather fragrance oil hazardous?
Undiluted, Leather is classified under GB CLP with the signal word Warning:
- H315 Causes skin irritation.
- H317 May cause an allergic skin reaction.
- H319 Causes serious eye irritation.
- H411 Toxic to aquatic life with long lasting effects.
Candles, wax melts and diffusers you make with it may need their own CLP label. Full details are in the Safety Data Sheet.
Is Leather fragrance oil flammable?
No. Its flash point is >100°C, so it isn’t classified as flammable. Like any fragrance oil, keep it away from naked flames.
Will Leather discolour my wax?
It’s unlikely. Leather contains no vanillin or ethyl vanillin, the most common cause of discolouration. Always test with your own wax and dyes.
Is there a CLP label for Leather?
Yes. Our free CLP label creator makes a ready-to-print label for candles and wax melts made with Leather. Safety Data Sheets, IFRA certificates and label files are in the documents above.
Are your fragrance oils vegan?
Yes. All are 100% vegan with no animal-derived ingredients.
Can I use them in electric diffusers or oil burners?
Most can. Where suitable:
- Electric diffusers – add a few drops to the water, adjusting to taste.
- Oil burners – mix 50/50 with dipropylene glycol (DPG), or add a few drops to water in the well.
How do I use the 100ml bottles?
They include a blind plug to prevent leaks in transit. Either pierce the centre with a pin or biro to use it as a dropper, or remove the stopper, pour, and replace the plug.
