Questions

Common questions

What does Salted Caramel fragrance oil smell like?

Sweet-gourmand with caramel, toffee, vanilla, amber, coconut, and honey undertones. Top notes: mandarin, orange, nutmeg, pepper. Heart: toffee, vanilla. Base: amber, coconut, honey.

How much Salted Caramel fragrance oil do I need for a candle?

Use 5–10% of the candle’s total weight. For a 200g candle that’s 10–20g of Salted Caramel (about 9–18ml). There is no IFRA limit for candles. The calculator above works it out for any size.

How much Salted Caramel should I use in wax melts?

Use 5–10% – that’s 5–10g of fragrance oil for every 100g of finished melts. Check the maximum your wax can hold.

Can I use Salted Caramel in a reed diffuser?

Yes. Use 15–25% Salted Caramel in a reed diffuser base such as Augeo Clean Multi. The IFRA maximum is 48.97%. Ready-made reed diffuser CLP labels and an SDS are in the documents above.

Can I use Salted Caramel in soap, lotion or perfume?

  • Soap: yes – 3–6% (IFRA maximum 48.97%)
  • Body lotion: yes – 0.5–1.5% (IFRA maximum 22.66%)
  • Face cream: yes – 0.1–0.5% (IFRA maximum 11.42%)
  • Perfume: yes – 5–20% (IFRA maximum 86.67%)
  • Lip balm: not suitable

Soap, lotion and perfume are cosmetics, so each one needs a safety assessment (CPSR) before you sell it.

Is Salted Caramel fragrance oil hazardous?

Undiluted, Salted Caramel is classified under GB CLP with the signal word Warning:

  • H317 May cause an allergic skin reaction.
  • H411 Toxic to aquatic life with long lasting effects.

Candles, wax melts and diffusers you make with it may need their own CLP label. Full details are in the Safety Data Sheet.

Is Salted Caramel fragrance oil flammable?

No. Its flash point is >100°C, so it isn’t classified as flammable. Like any fragrance oil, keep it away from naked flames.

Will Salted Caramel discolour my wax?

It may. Salted Caramel contains vanillin (1%), which can turn wax, soap and other bases cream to brown over time. Test before bulk pouring – see our vanillin guide.

Is there a CLP label for Salted Caramel?

Yes. Our free CLP label creator makes a ready-to-print label for candles and wax melts made with Salted Caramel, and for reed diffusers. Safety Data Sheets, IFRA certificates and label files are in the documents above.

Are your fragrance oils vegan?

Yes. All are 100% vegan with no animal-derived ingredients.

Can I use Salted Caramel in an electric diffuser or oil burner?

Yes.

  • Electric water diffusers (ultrasonic or humidifier style) – fill the tank with water to the line, then add 3–5 drops per 100ml of water. Start low and add more to taste.
  • Oil burners – mix 50/50 with dipropylene glycol (DPG), or add a few drops to water in the well.

Important – look after your diffuser:

  • Fragrance oils are concentrated, and some plastics used in diffuser tanks can soften, cloud or crack if oil is left sitting in them. This depends on the plastic the diffuser is made from. It happens with any concentrated fragrance or essential oil, not just ours.
  • Empty the tank when you’ve finished. Don’t leave water and oil sitting in it between uses.
  • Rinse and wipe the tank every few uses, as fragrance oils can leave a film.
  • Check your diffuser’s instructions to make sure it is suitable for fragrance oils. If it says essential oils only, or doesn’t say, ask the maker before using it.

How do I use the 100ml bottles?

They include a blind plug to prevent leaks in transit. Either pierce the centre with a pin or biro to use it as a dropper, or remove the stopper, pour, and replace the plug.
