Smoked Chestnut Fragrance Oil
A smoky gourmand — chestnut, cedarwood, smoky vetiver.
The scent
Smoked Chestnut opens with roasted chestnut — nutty, creamy and warm, closer to hot food than dessert, which is exactly what makes it interesting. Cedarwood sits in the middle and dries things out, adding a clean woody structure that stops the nuttiness turning heavy or cloying. Smoky vetiver finishes it off with a proper open-fire quality, earthy and slightly charred, giving real depth to what could otherwise be a simple food note. This is a gourmand for customers who’ve had enough of vanilla and sugar — an obvious fit for autumn, Bonfire Night and Christmas ranges.

Questions
Common questions
What does Smoked Chestnut fragrance oil smell like?
A smoky gourmand — chestnut, cedarwood, smoky vetiver. Top notes: chestnut. Heart: cedarwood. Base: vetiver.
How much Smoked Chestnut fragrance oil do I need for a candle?
Use 5–10% of the candle’s total weight. For a 200g candle that’s 10–20g of Smoked Chestnut (about 9–18ml). There is no IFRA limit for candles. The calculator above works it out for any size.
How much Smoked Chestnut should I use in wax melts?
Use 5–10% – that’s 5–10g of fragrance oil for every 100g of finished melts. Check the maximum your wax can hold.
Can I use Smoked Chestnut in a reed diffuser?
We don’t recommend it. The IFRA maximum for reed diffusers is only 12%, which is too low for a good scent throw.
Can I use Smoked Chestnut in soap, lotion or perfume?
- Soap: yes – 3–6% (IFRA maximum 12%)
- Body lotion: yes – 0.5–1.5% (IFRA maximum 25.5%)
- Face cream: yes – 0.1–0.5% (IFRA maximum 2.8%)
- Perfume: yes – 5–20% (no IFRA limit)

Soap, lotion and perfume are cosmetics, so each one needs a safety assessment (CPSR) before you sell it.
Is Smoked Chestnut fragrance oil hazardous?
Undiluted, Smoked Chestnut is classified under GB CLP with the signal word Warning:
- H315 Causes skin irritation.
- H317 May cause an allergic skin reaction.
- H410 Very toxic to aquatic life with long lasting effects.
Candles, wax melts and diffusers you make with it may need their own CLP label. Full details are in the Safety Data Sheet.
Is Smoked Chestnut fragrance oil flammable?
No. Its flash point is 64°C, so it isn’t classified as flammable. Like any fragrance oil, keep it away from naked flames.
Will Smoked Chestnut discolour my wax?
It’s unlikely. Smoked Chestnut contains no vanillin or ethyl vanillin, the most common cause of discolouration. Always test with your own wax and dyes.
Is there a CLP label for Smoked Chestnut?
Yes. Our free CLP label creator makes a ready-to-print label for candles and wax melts made with Smoked Chestnut. Safety Data Sheets, IFRA certificates and label files are in the documents above.
Are your fragrance oils vegan?
Yes. All are 100% vegan with no animal-derived ingredients.
Can I use Smoked Chestnut in an electric diffuser or oil burner?
Yes.
- Electric water diffusers (ultrasonic or humidifier style) – fill the tank with water to the line, then add 3–5 drops per 100ml of water. Start low and add more to taste.
- Oil burners – mix 50/50 with dipropylene glycol (DPG), or add a few drops to water in the well.
Important – look after your diffuser:
- Fragrance oils are concentrated, and some plastics used in diffuser tanks can soften, cloud or crack if oil is left sitting in them. This depends on the plastic the diffuser is made from. It happens with any concentrated fragrance or essential oil, not just ours.
- Empty the tank when you’ve finished. Don’t leave water and oil sitting in it between uses.
- Rinse and wipe the tank every few uses, as fragrance oils can leave a film.
- Check your diffuser’s instructions to make sure it is suitable for fragrance oils. If it says essential oils only, or doesn’t say, ask the maker before using it.
How do I use the 100ml bottles?
They include a blind plug to prevent leaks in transit. Either pierce the centre with a pin or biro to use it as a dropper, or remove the stopper, pour, and replace the plug.
