Recommended amounts are starting points – always test. Incense and hanging car fresheners use the candle limit (Cat 12). Linen, fabric and car air freshener sprays use the room spray limit (Cat 10B). Bath bombs, bath salts, shower gel and body scrubs use the soap limit (Cat 9). Not recommended means the IFRA limit is too low for a good scent, not that it is banned. No fragrance oil is approved for lip products.

Questions

Common questions

What does Balsam Cedarwood fragrance oil smell like?

Woody-herbal with cedarwood, balsam, bergamot, patchouli, amber, and musk. Top notes: bergamot, orange, peach. Heart: oak balsam, eucalyptus, clove, rose, violet. Base: amber, musk, patchouli, woods. See it in our Scent Match Guide.

How much Balsam Cedarwood fragrance oil do I need for a candle?

Use 5–10% of the candle’s total weight. For a 200g candle that’s 10–20g of Balsam Cedarwood (about 10–19ml). There is no IFRA limit for candles. The calculator above works it out for any size.

How much Balsam Cedarwood should I use in wax melts?

Use 5–10% – that’s 5–10g of fragrance oil for every 100g of finished melts. Check the maximum your wax can hold.

Can I use Balsam Cedarwood in a reed diffuser?

Yes. Use 15–25% Balsam Cedarwood in a reed diffuser base such as Augeo Clean Multi. The IFRA maximum is 34.66%. Ready-made reed diffuser CLP labels and an SDS are in the documents above.

Can I use Balsam Cedarwood in soap, lotion or perfume?

  • Soap: yes – 3–6% (IFRA maximum 34.66%)
  • Body lotion: yes – 0.5–1.5% (IFRA maximum 17.29%)
  • Face cream: yes – 0.1–0.5% (IFRA maximum 7.33%)
  • Perfume: yes – 5–20% (IFRA maximum 67.56%)
  • Lip balm: not suitable

Soap, lotion and perfume are cosmetics, so each one needs a safety assessment (CPSR) before you sell it.

Is Balsam Cedarwood fragrance oil hazardous?

Undiluted, Balsam Cedarwood is classified under GB CLP with the signal word Warning:

  • H317 May cause an allergic skin reaction.
  • H412 Harmful to aquatic life with long lasting effects.

Candles, wax melts and diffusers you make with it may need their own CLP label. Full details are in the Safety Data Sheet.

Is Balsam Cedarwood fragrance oil flammable?

No. Its flash point is 92°C, so it isn’t classified as flammable. Like any fragrance oil, keep it away from naked flames.

Will Balsam Cedarwood discolour my wax?

It may. Balsam Cedarwood contains vanillin (0.4%), which can turn wax, soap and other bases cream to brown over time. Test before bulk pouring – see our vanillin guide.

Is Balsam Cedarwood in the Scent Match Guide?

Yes – see Balsam Cedarwood in our Scent Match Guide, which suggests our oils for fragrances you may already enjoy.

Is there a CLP label for Balsam Cedarwood?

Yes. Our free CLP label creator makes a ready-to-print label for candles and wax melts made with Balsam Cedarwood, and for reed diffusers. Safety Data Sheets, IFRA certificates and label files are in the documents above.

Are your fragrance oils vegan?

Yes. All are 100% vegan with no animal-derived ingredients.

Can I use Balsam Cedarwood in an electric diffuser or oil burner?

Yes.

  • Electric water diffusers (ultrasonic or humidifier style) – fill the tank with water to the line, then add 3–5 drops per 100ml of water. Start low and add more to taste.
  • Oil burners – mix 50/50 with dipropylene glycol (DPG), or add a few drops to water in the well.

Important – look after your diffuser:

  • Fragrance oils are concentrated, and some plastics used in diffuser tanks can soften, cloud or crack if oil is left sitting in them. This depends on the plastic the diffuser is made from. It happens with any concentrated fragrance or essential oil, not just ours.
  • Empty the tank when you’ve finished. Don’t leave water and oil sitting in it between uses.
  • Rinse and wipe the tank every few uses, as fragrance oils can leave a film.
  • Check your diffuser’s instructions to make sure it is suitable for fragrance oils. If it says essential oils only, or doesn’t say, ask the maker before using it.

How do I use the 100ml bottles?

They include a blind plug to prevent leaks in transit. Either pierce the centre with a pin or biro to use it as a dropper, or remove the stopper, pour, and replace the plug.

Customer questions 1

I have put my order of 100 ls into a diffuser, is that ok?

Balsam Cedarwood fragrance oil shouldn’t be used neat in a diffuser. It’s a concentrated oil that needs diluting first, and how depends on your diffuser:

Reed diffuser: mix the oil with a reed diffuser base such as Augeo Clean Multi, using 15–25% fragrance oil. For your 100ml of oil, adding 300ml of base gives about 25%. The IFRA maximum for reed diffusers is 34.66%.

Electric water diffuser (ultrasonic or humidifier style): fill the tank with water to the line, then add just 3–5 drops of fragrance oil per 100ml of water. If you’ve poured the oil straight into the tank, empty it, then rinse and wipe the tank. Some plastics can soften, cloud or crack if oil is left sitting in them.
