The Male Fragrance Oil
Fougère with mint, lavender, soft florals, creamy warmth, and gentle sweetness.
The scent
The Male Fragrance Oil opens with a fresh, invigorating burst of cool mint, instantly delivering the crisp clarity typical of classic aftershave-inspired scents. As the fragrance unfolds, a smooth heart of soft lavender blends with ylang-ylang, geranium, and gentle white florals, creating a creamy fougère character that feels both clean and comforting. The base settles into warm, subtly sweet undertones that round the composition with depth and familiarity. Confident and timeless, this masculine fragrance is especially well suited to autumn and winter collections, offering warmth, nostalgia, and enduring appeal in evening and everyday home fragrance.

Where you can use it

Recommended amounts are starting points – always test. Incense and hanging car fresheners use the candle limit (Cat 12). Linen, fabric and car air freshener sprays use the room spray limit (Cat 10B). Bath bombs, bath salts, shower gel and body scrubs use the soap limit (Cat 9). Not recommended means the IFRA limit is too low for a good scent, not that it is banned. Questions
Common questions
What does The Male fragrance oil smell like?
Fougère with mint, lavender, soft florals, creamy warmth, and gentle sweetness. Top notes: mint. Heart: lavender, ylang ylang, geranium, white florals. Base: cream. See it in our Scent Match Guide.
How much The Male fragrance oil do I need for a candle?
Use 5–10% of the candle’s total weight. For a 200g candle that’s 10–20g of The Male (about 10–19ml). There is no IFRA limit for candles. The calculator above works it out for any size.
How much The Male should I use in wax melts?
Use 5–10% – that’s 5–10g of fragrance oil for every 100g of finished melts. Check the maximum your wax can hold.
Can I use The Male in a reed diffuser?
We don’t recommend it. The IFRA maximum for reed diffusers is only 12.3%, which is too low for a good scent throw.
Can I use The Male in soap, lotion or perfume?
- Soap: yes – 3–6% (IFRA maximum 12.3%)
- Body lotion: yes – 0.5–1.5% (IFRA maximum 12.66%)

- Perfume: yes – 5–20% (IFRA maximum 49.99%)
- Lip balm: not suitable
Soap, lotion and perfume are cosmetics, so each one needs a safety assessment (CPSR) before you sell it.
Is The Male fragrance oil hazardous?
Undiluted, The Male is classified under GB CLP with the signal word Warning:
- H315 Causes skin irritation.
- H317 May cause an allergic skin reaction.
- H319 Causes serious eye irritation.
- H410 Very toxic to aquatic life with long lasting effects.
Candles, wax melts and diffusers you make with it may need their own CLP label. Full details are in the Safety Data Sheet.
Is The Male fragrance oil flammable?
No. Its flash point is >100°C, so it isn’t classified as flammable. Like any fragrance oil, keep it away from naked flames.
Will The Male discolour my wax?
It’s unlikely. The Male contains no vanillin or ethyl vanillin, the most common cause of discolouration. Always test with your own wax and dyes.
Is The Male in the Scent Match Guide?
Yes – see The Male in our Scent Match Guide, which suggests our oils for fragrances you may already enjoy.
Is there a CLP label for The Male?
Yes. Our free CLP label creator makes a ready-to-print label for candles and wax melts made with The Male. Safety Data Sheets, IFRA certificates and label files are in the documents above.
Are your fragrance oils vegan?
Yes. All are 100% vegan with no animal-derived ingredients.
Can I use The Male in an electric diffuser or oil burner?
Yes.
- Electric water diffusers (ultrasonic or humidifier style) – fill the tank with water to the line, then add 3–5 drops per 100ml of water. Start low and add more to taste.
- Oil burners – mix 50/50 with dipropylene glycol (DPG), or add a few drops to water in the well.
Important – look after your diffuser:
- Fragrance oils are concentrated, and some plastics used in diffuser tanks can soften, cloud or crack if oil is left sitting in them. This depends on the plastic the diffuser is made from. It happens with any concentrated fragrance or essential oil, not just ours.
- Empty the tank when you’ve finished. Don’t leave water and oil sitting in it between uses.
- Rinse and wipe the tank every few uses, as fragrance oils can leave a film.
- Check your diffuser’s instructions to make sure it is suitable for fragrance oils. If it says essential oils only, or doesn’t say, ask the maker before using it.
How do I use the 100ml bottles?
They include a blind plug to prevent leaks in transit. Either pierce the centre with a pin or biro to use it as a dropper, or remove the stopper, pour, and replace the plug.

A subtle but beautiful fragrance. One of my customers requested a sponge and a diffuser with this fragrance. He left the diffuser in his camper van overnight and he said it smelt absolutely gorgeous the next morning. I must admit, the smell, while I was making them was beautiful. It’s not a heavy, or musky fragrance , it is a subtle, floral scent, which lingers. I definitely recommend this, if you are not into heavy scents.
