The scent

Palo Santo opens with a warm, aromatic hit of cardamom and sage — spiced and slightly herbal, with an intimate quality that sets the tone immediately. Narcissus and sparkling wine move through the heart, an unusual but effective combination that adds a soft floral lift and a faintly boozy sweetness without tipping into heavy territory. Vanilla, palo santo and cedar settle into the base, bringing a smooth, resinous woodiness that gives this real depth and staying power. The palo santo note is the star here — smoky, sacred and distinctive, it’s the kind of ingredient that makes a product memorable on a shelf. A strong choice for makers building wellness-inspired, unisex or spiritually-themed ranges.

Questions

Common questions

What does Palo Santo fragrance oil smell like?

A woody aromatic — cardamom, sage, narcissus, wine, vetiver, vanilla, palo santo, cedar. Top notes: cardamom, sage. Heart: narcissus, sparkling wine. Base: vanilla, palo santo, cedar.

How much Palo Santo fragrance oil do I need for a candle?

Use 5–10% of the candle’s total weight. For a 200g candle that’s 10–20g of Palo Santo (about 10–20ml). There is no IFRA limit for candles. The calculator above works it out for any size.

How much Palo Santo should I use in wax melts?

Use 5–10% – that’s 5–10g of fragrance oil for every 100g of finished melts. Check the maximum your wax can hold.

Can I use Palo Santo in a reed diffuser?

Yes. Use 15–25% Palo Santo in a reed diffuser base such as Augeo Clean Multi. The IFRA maximum is 30.58%. Ready-made reed diffuser CLP labels and an SDS are in the documents above.

Can I use Palo Santo in soap, lotion or perfume?

  • Body lotion: yes – 0.5–1.5% (IFRA maximum 13.75%)
  • Face cream: yes – 0.1–0.5% (IFRA maximum 6.47%)
  • Perfume: yes – 5–20% (IFRA maximum 53.75%)
  • Lip balm: not suitable

Soap, lotion and perfume are cosmetics, so each one needs a safety assessment (CPSR) before you sell it.

Is Palo Santo fragrance oil hazardous?

Undiluted, Palo Santo is classified under GB CLP with the signal word Warning:

  • H315 Causes skin irritation.
  • H317 May cause an allergic skin reaction.
  • H319 Causes serious eye irritation.
  • H411 Toxic to aquatic life with long lasting effects.

Candles, wax melts and diffusers you make with it may need their own CLP label. Full details are in the Safety Data Sheet.

Is Palo Santo fragrance oil flammable?

No. Its flash point is 75°C, so it isn’t classified as flammable. Like any fragrance oil, keep it away from naked flames.

Will Palo Santo discolour my wax?

It may. Palo Santo contains vanillin (1.2%), which can turn wax, soap and other bases cream to brown over time. Test before bulk pouring – see our vanillin guide.

Is there a CLP label for Palo Santo?

Yes. Our free CLP label creator makes a ready-to-print label for candles and wax melts made with Palo Santo, and for reed diffusers. Safety Data Sheets, IFRA certificates and label files are in the documents above.

Are your fragrance oils vegan?

Yes. All are 100% vegan with no animal-derived ingredients.

Can I use Palo Santo in an electric diffuser or oil burner?

Yes.

  • Electric water diffusers (ultrasonic or humidifier style) – fill the tank with water to the line, then add 3–5 drops per 100ml of water. Start low and add more to taste.
  • Oil burners – mix 50/50 with dipropylene glycol (DPG), or add a few drops to water in the well.

Important – look after your diffuser:

  • Fragrance oils are concentrated, and some plastics used in diffuser tanks can soften, cloud or crack if oil is left sitting in them. This depends on the plastic the diffuser is made from. It happens with any concentrated fragrance or essential oil, not just ours.
  • Empty the tank when you’ve finished. Don’t leave water and oil sitting in it between uses.
  • Rinse and wipe the tank every few uses, as fragrance oils can leave a film.
  • Check your diffuser’s instructions to make sure it is suitable for fragrance oils. If it says essential oils only, or doesn’t say, ask the maker before using it.

How do I use the 100ml bottles?

They include a blind plug to prevent leaks in transit. Either pierce the centre with a pin or biro to use it as a dropper, or remove the stopper, pour, and replace the plug.
